Fundraising Success – Opal Foundation and BBC Children in Need.

2nd of December 2008

Staff from across the Opal Group raised just over £1537 for BBC Children in Need and The Opal Foundation Africa Project.  The monies will be split equally between the 2 charities.

The overall theme was to dress down and wear a yellow item and there were a number of activities across the group halls, offices and hotels, including raffles, cake sales, guess the teddy’s name or number of sweets, parcel or lost fob ransoms, tombola, a slave auction and ‘free lunch’.

The Opal Foundation Africa Project has been set up to make a big difference to the lives of children and their families. To date, the Opal Foundation has funded two projects in Ethiopia: the refurbishment of classrooms at Karagutu School and the construction of houses for families affected and disabled by leprosy.

Opal Foundation is now working with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) on a fantastic new programme to radically improve health, education, water and sanitation in South Omo, Ethiopia, one of the most disadvantaged communities in the world.  The programme will affect around 200,000 people living in nomadic pastoralist communities in South Omo and will be targeted particularly at improving the lives of children.
